A scream with death under the arm.
Considered a pearl in the history of Portuguese deama and in the Portuguese language “O Doido e a Morte”, is an existencial farce, where perhaps it makes sense to speak about expressionism, to deal with the revolution of an individual faced with cruelty, inconsistency, and the vileness of the modern world. In addition, the work of Raúl Brandão is full of “screams” that are made so that we always have the paiting “The Scream” by Munsch in view.
The staging is specifically inspired by this idea and this example. From that point comes the option for the use of maska, the style of presentation, the appropriate stage properties, the wardrobe, sound and light. We say that the entire conformation of the play, whether it be the interpretation, sound or visual, is the portrait of a gigantic scream that can serve, if not to awaken us from this strange dream that is the present, at least to be more alert in the future.
